From the United States you may enter via one of three International bridges:

Starting from the west, Ivy Lea (Interstate 81), Johnstown (Interstate 68) or Cornwall (Interstate 37).

Please note that a valid driver’s license from any country is good in Canada for three months, but you may want to obtain an International Driver’s License before your trip, for extra identification.

If you’re driving over the border, bring the vehicle registration forms and a Canadian Non-Resident Insurance Card from your insurance agent, or the policy itself. The minimum combined liability insurance in Ontario is $200,000.

If you’re driving a borrowed car, bring a letter of permission signed by the owner. If you’re driving a rented car, bring a copy of the rental contract.

You can make right turns on red lights, unless signs indicate you cannot. You must come to a full stop, then proceed with caution if the way is clear.

If you would like to know how traffic is moving on major Ontario routes, visit the Ministry of Transportation.
